LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell (5-15, 0-5) volleyball team dropped an America East clash against the Stony Brook Seawolves (6-14, 2-3), 3-0 (10-25, 18-25, 17-25), on Friday night.

In set one, the River Hawks trimmed a five-point deficit to trail 10-7, but the Seawolves went on runs of 4-1 and 8-0 to clinch a 25-10 victory. Both teams battled back and forth in the second set, as the visitors jumped out to a 5-2 buffer but the River Hawks came back to get within 11-10 on an 8-6 run. Three separate times the hosts got within one point, but could not get over the hump, and the Seawolves countered with a 7-0 run to take a 22-15 advantage and the set.

UMass Lowell took its second lead of the night early in set three but Stony Brook was able to string together five points for a 6-2 lead. The River Hawks battled back to get within 20-12 and 24-17 with runs of 3-0 and 4-0, respectively.

McKenna Bova (Corono, Calif.) led UMass Lowell with a team-high .571 hitting percentage and 12 assists, while registering four kills.
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) and
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) each had five kills to lead the squad, with Claybaugh adding 10 kills.

The visitors were led by McKyla Brooks and Maria Poole with seven kills apiece, while LeAnne Sakowicz registered 27 assists. Â

The River Hawks are back in action on October 16, as they welcome the UMBC Retrievers for a Sunday matinee beginning at 12 p.m.
