River Hawks Head to UMBC Before Hosting Stony Brook In Pink Game

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team is slated to play a pair of America East tilts this week. The River Hawks will trek to UMBC on Thursday, October 6 for a 7 p.m. showdown, before entertaining Stony Brook on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. in the program's annual Cancer Awareness game.
 
Weekend Promotions
As part of the team's annual Cancer Awareness game, UMass Lowell is holding an online auction for the squad's special game-worn pink jerseys. The auction will remain open until Sunday, Oct. 9, following the conclusion of the match against Stony Brook. All proceeds will be donated to the Dana Farber Institute. To bid, click here.
 
Sunday will also celebrate Team IMPACT Day, as the River Hawks honor their Team IMPACT player, Sarah, in a special pre-game ceremony.
 
The second annual America East Food Frenzy will take place prior to Sunday's match, as well. UMass Lowell and Stony Brook will exchange canned goods prior to the start of the contest that will be donated to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. Looking at the River Hawks
The River Hawks (3-6-2, 1-2-0 AE) are looking to get back on track in conference play after dropping back-to-back 1-0 outings to America East foes Maine (Sept. 29) and Vermont (Oct. 2.) Junior Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) paces the club in points and goals, tallying five and two, respectively, in addition to tacking on an assist. Through 11 game so far this season, UMass Lowell has produced seven different point scorers, five of who have found the back of the net at least once this fall. Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Schneider(Bridgewater, Mass.) owns the majority of decisions in the net thus far, starting nine of the team's 11 games and compiling a 2-6-1 record, while boasting a 1.00 goals against average, a 0.855 save percentage and 53 saves.
 
Scouting UMBC
The Retrievers enter Thursday's match 5-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in America East action after splitting a pair of decisions last week. UMBC fell on the road at Hartford, 3-1, on Sept. 29, before grabbing their first conference win in a 3-0 shutout against Maine on Oct. 2. Forward Alexa Quaranta leads the team with four goals and four assists for 12 points. Nine different Retrievers have found the back of the net this year, including five who have tallied multiple goals on the season. Goalkeeper Leah Roth owns every decision in the net, boasting a 1.64 goals against average, a .700 save percentage and 64 saves, while posting two shutouts thus far.
 
Scouting Stony Brook

The Seawolves (4-7-2 overall, 1-1-0 AE) are coming off a pair of split decisions in last week's action. Stony Brook opened conference play with a 4-0 defeat at UAlbany on Sept. 29 before capturing a 3-0 blank sheet against Binghamton on Oct. 2. Through 13 games so far this season, forward Raven Edwards is first on the squad in points (10) and goals (4), while midfielder Christen Cahill is posting a team-high five assists. Time in the net has been split between Shannon Robinson and Cara Gallager, accumulating 0-5-1 and 4-2-1 records, respectively.
 
Newcomer Notables
Sophomore transfer Jaymee Luke (Las Vegas, Nev.) netted her first tally of the season after scoring the game-winner for the River Hawks, defeating UAlbany, 1-0, on Sept. 25. Freshman forward Maddie Cheney (Bow, N.H.) added her first point as a River Hawk with an assist against Stetson on August 26. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) picked up her first career-win and shutout with a 1-0 victory against Bryant on Sept. 12 after tallying six saves in the outing.
