LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team will hit the road for a pair of America East games this week. The River Hawks visit Hartford for a 6 p.m. battle on Thursday, October 13 before stopping at Binghamton (1 p.m.) three days later on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Â
Looking at UMass Lowell
The River Hawks enter Thursday's match 4-7-2 overall and 2-2-0 in America East action after splitting a pair of decisions last week. UMass Lowell took home an exciting 1-0, double overtime victory last week at UMBC (10.6) after
Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) sent a diving header into the back of the net in 100th minute. The squad then dropped a back-and-forth, 3-2 battle against Stony Brook on Oct. 9. JuniorÂ
Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) paces the club in points and goals, tallying seven and three, respectively, in addition to tacking on an assist. Through 13 games so far this season, UMass Lowell has produced 10 different point scorers, six of who have found the back of the net at least once this fall. Sophomore goalkeeperÂ
Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) owns the majority of decisions in the net thus far, starting 11 of the team's 13 games and compiling a 2-7-1 record, while boasting a 1.07 goals against average, a 0.838 save percentage and 62 saves.
Â
Scouting Hartford
The Hawks (9-4-1, 3-1-1 AE) are coming off a 1-0-1 week against a pair of conference foes. Hartford defeated Maine, 2-0, on Oct. 6 before batting UAlbany to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 9. Kaila Lozada is first on the team with 14 points (5g, 4a), while teammates Tori Tripp and Julia Carr trail closely behind, with 13 points apiece. Goalkeeper Jessica Jurg owns every decision in the net, boasting a 1.13 goals against average, a .729 save percentage and 43 saves, while posting five shutouts thus far.
Â
Scouting Binghamton
The Bearcats sit at 5-8-2 overall and 1-4-0 in AE, and are coming of a pair of split decisions. Binghamton dropped a close, 1-0 game against UAlbany on Oct. 6 before picking up its first conference win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Maine on Oct. 9. Michaell Galvin headlines the offense with two goals and four assists for eight points through 15 games this season. So far in 2016, the squad has six different goal scorers, including four players posting multiple tallies. Goalkeeper Katie Hatziyianis (5-8-1) holds a 1.22 goals against average, a .779 save percentage and 67 saves.
Â
Series History
The River Hawks look to even the score on Thursday night against the Hawks, as Hartford holds a slight 2-1-0 edge in the all-time series, despite a thrilling, 1-0, double overtime win for UMass Lowell in 2015. Sunday will be the fifth meeting between the Bearcats and the River Hawks, as Binghamton will enter the match with a 4-1-0 series advantage.
