Sean Flanagan Named Director of Hockey Operations

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Hockey Head Coach Norm Bazin has announced the hiring of Sean Flanagan as the River Hawks' new director of hockey operations. He joins the UMass Lowell program after serving as an assistant coach at Hobart College from 2012-2015.

Flanagan's responsibilities include team video breakdown and team travel.

"We're thrilled that Sean has decided to accept the director of hockey operations position, said Bazin. "His attention to detail and his enthusiasm for the position help set him apart from other candidates. Between his playing career at St. Lawrence and his time working for a winning organization at Hobart, we feel that Sean will have an immediate impact for our hockey club."

As an assistant coach at Hobart, he served as the North America recruiter for the program, and would break down video and statistics for the staff. During his tenure, the Statesmen won 54 games, two ECAC West Regular Season Championships, one ECAC West Tournament Championship and made the NCAA Tournament once.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the staff at UMass Lowell, said Flanagan. "The success and commitment to the continued development of the program makes for an exciting future at UMass Lowell.

"I would like to thank Head Coach Norm Bazin, and Assistant Coaches Cam Ellsworth and Andy Jones for the opportunity to be part of the staff here at UMass Lowell."

The St. Lawrence graduate played four years for the Saints' Division I ice hockey team, and was voted assistant captain for the 2010-2011 season. After graduation, Flanagan played for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and the Quad City Mallards of the ECHL.

Flanagan graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history with a minor in sports studies and exercise sciences in 2010. He also earned a master of education degree from St. Lawrence in 2011.
