The UMass Lowell baseball team is at the halfway point of a 10-game road stretch and visits Rhode Island on Wednesday before taking on the 2014 America East Conference tournament champion Binghamton Bearcats in a two game set on Monday.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
The River Hawks went 2-3 last week with an 11-9 win at Northeastern and a 6-3 victory in the series finale at Stony Brook, the America East preseason favorite. The team has half of their four homeruns in the last week as Zack Tower and Jimmy Ricoy joined Geoff DeGroot and Joe Consolmagno in the HR column. Ricoy hit a grand slam at Bryant while Tower hit a two-run dinger at Northeastern.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE RAMS
Joe Consolmagno hit a two-RBI triple in the seventh to cap a run of six unanswered as the River Hawks went on for a 8-4 victory over the Rams (5-10-1) at Bill Beck Field last season. The Rams responded with two in the bottom of the inning before Ricoy brought Ian Strom around with an double to right. URI scored two more in the eighth but Consolmagno added an insurance run with a double to left before Nick Boutoures shut the door on the Rams.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE BEARCATS
The squads played five times last season with the River Hawks taking three from the eventual AE tournament champs. Playing at URI's Bill Beck Field, UMass Lowell took the first two games at "home," both by a score of 4-2. Binghamton took the series opener, 10-6, and finale 7-3, on their home turf while the River Hawks took a 3-2 contest in game two courtesy of a double to left center by Tower in the seventh and final inning.

RICOY SUAVE
Senior Jimmy Ricoy found his groove last week driving in eight runs and hitting .438 (7-16) to more than double his average from .143 to its current mark of .300. Ricoy started the week by hitting his first home run of the season, clearing all the bases with his first career grand slam against Bryant. The first baseman had two-RBI, including a game-tying RBI single in the seventh to help the River Hawks to an 11-9 victory at Northeastern.

TURNIN' TWO
The River Hawks were stout on defense on Monday turning seven double plays, including a season-high four in the second of the twinbill at Stony Brook. Their strong play in the field moved them second in the conference.

RIVER HAWKS IN THE AE
UMass Lowell ranks among the conference leaders in several categories. The team leads the America East in on base percentage (.374), hit by pitch (24) and stolen bases (38) while ranking second in batting average (.268) and double plays turned (18). The club also ranks third in runs scored (88) and walks drawn (77).
