@RiverHawkNationLowell, Mass. – Fresh off their first victory, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team is back home to entertain Providence for a midweek battle on March 10 at 4 p.m.
River Hawk RecapPaced by four, first-half goals by freshmanÂ
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alberta), the UMass Lowell River Hawks held on for a historic first Division I victory defeating NJIT by the final score of 9-7. UMass Lowell jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held an 8-1 advantage at halftime. Despite a second-half comeback by the Highlanders, the River Hawks were able to hold them scoreless the final five minutes and secure the win.
What Are You Going to Do About Seven?Tyrrell and fellow freshman
Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) are co-leaders in goals for the River Hawks with seven this season. Each player has had a four-goal game this season with Phillips' game coming against Siena on February 21.
First Half FirepowerThe River Hawks have done most of their offensive damage in the first half this season. 38 of their 55 goals so far have been scored in the opening 30 minutes.
Ober and OutSophomore goalie
Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.) has had a strong season between the pipes for the River Hawks. He is averaging 10.25 saves per game in four contests this season.
Scouting ProvidenceProvidence enter Tuesday's contest with a record of 3-2 in 2015. The Big East foe have played only one game away from home this season, losing to #6 Duke on March 1, 20-8. The Friars are coming off an 11-8 victory against Sacred Heart on Saturday to move them back over .500. Senior Buck McClure leads the team with 14 points (7g,7a) while fellow senior Greg Fitzmaurice's nine goals are good for tops on the team.
