Anxious to return to the diamond after what will be a 12-day break between games, the UMass Lowell baseball team travels to William & Mary this weekend for a three game series.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
The River Hawks split the series when they played last, beating Georgia State 9-2 in the finale of a four-game set. The team bats were locked in as they picked up 35 hits and scored 26 runs over the four games. Seniors Geoff DeGroot and Kevin Veilleux along with freshman Nick Kuzia made their first career starts on the mound for the River Hawks. DeGroot and Veilleux each picked up the decision as DeGroot gave up one earned run on four hits over seven innings while Veilleux was dominant in his six innings, putting away 20 of the 25 Panthers he faced. He gave up two hits and one run while striking out two.

SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary enters the series with a 4-4 record after getting swept in a doubleheader at Campbell on Wednesday. The Tribe gave up a three runs in the sixth and two more in seventh as the Camels rallied to win the first game 10-6 before falling 8-5 in the nightcap. First baseman Charlie Gould headlines the W&M lineup, hitting .464 with 13 hits, 2 HR and 12 RBI. The Tribe lost 19 and return nine members from last years team who claimed the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season crown but fell short in the CAA championship game.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This marks the second meeting between the River Hawks and the Tribe. The clubs met last season in Williamsburg with William & Mary claiming a 16-4 triumph behind Michael Katz's two homeruns and five RBI. Center fielder Ian Strom split the River Hawks scoring with shortstop Danny Mendick who picked up his two RBI in the fourth inning with a homer to left to score Joe Consolmagno.

MENDICK STARTS HOT
Senior Danny Mendick was named the America East Player of the Week on February 24th after hitting a sizzling .462 at the plate (6-13) while batting in six runs. Mendick had three doubles and reached base safely in all four ballgames while playing error-free ball at shortstop. He is also tied for the league-lead in batting average, RBI and doubles.

YOUTH MOVEMENT
The 2015 River Hawks are a young club with 16 true freshmen and two redshirts on the roster. Righty Nick Kuzia picked up his first career start on the mound and was one of eight freshmen to make their River Hawk debuts at GSU. Both redshirts, BJ Foley and Tyler Noe, also saw action in the opening series against Georgia State.

RIVER HAWKS IN THE AE
UMass Lowell ranks among the conference leaders in several categories. The team leads the America East in on base percentage (.365) and stolen bases (14) while ranking second in batting average (.271), runs scored (26) and RBI (26).
