LOWELL, Mass. – Seven members of the UMass Lowell field hockey team were named to the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the NFHCA on Monday.
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.
Senior
Andrea Byrne (Tyngsborough, Mass.) earned a place on the National Academic Squad for the fourth consecutive year. She was one of 103 student-athletes this season to be designated as a four-year award recipient.
Other River Hawks to garner National Academic Squad recognition were freshmen
Kelsey Federico (Windham, N.H.),
Fiona Fitzgerald (Lexington, Mass.) and
Briannah Larsen (Boonton, N.J.), and juniors
Jenna Freitas (Manchester, N.H.),
Kelly Freitas (Manchester, N.H.) and
Sophie Watt (Sawtell, Australia).
In addition, Federico was named a 2014 Gladiator/NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction for having achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.9 through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.
