LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Binghamton Bearcats, 14-25, 22-25, and 19-25, on Senior Day.
With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 4-25, 1-11 and the Bearcats improve to 9-18 and 6-6 in conference play.
In UMass Lowell's best set of the day, the team used a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead before Binghamton regained the lead. The River Hawks continued to battle taking leads of 19-15 and 21-20, but could not close the set falling 25-22.
On the offensive attack, freshman outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) led the team with nine kills and
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) added seven on 16 attempts for a hitting percentage of .250. Junior
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) dished out 23 assists and two kills.
For the UMass Lowell defense, freshman libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glenn, Ill.) recorded a game-high 17 digs.
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) controlled the net with a game-high five block assists, and Toth added three of her own.
The match wrapped up the River Hawks' America East slate, as they will travel to Arizona for the Grand Canyon Reclassification Tournament on November 21 and 22. Â
