LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell (7-8-1, 2-3-1) men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to the UMBC Retrievers (9-5-3, 2-2-2) on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon.
"For the most part it was a pretty good performance," said Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "I thought we did a good job limiting any of their chances, but at the end it came down to one play; the corner in the second half and it was a good finish. We were pretty good out there, just need finish our chances and that's what we were lacking today."
UMBC's Gregg Hauck gave the visitors their only lead in the 72nd off of the team's second corner of the afternoon. Malcolm Harris sent the kick into the box and Michael Scott sent a header to Hauck, who sent it past the left of
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.).

Nana Osei (Ewing, N.J.) almost capped off the day with a goal in the fourth minute but his one-on-one opportunity was knocked aside by Billy Heavner.
The River Hawks outshot the Retrievers 10-2 in the first half, with Heavner making three saves.
Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) came within inches of breaking up the scoreless tie in the waning moments of the first half, but his shot was cleared off the line by a UMBC defender in the 44th minute.
UMass Lowell came out of the gate in the second half firing three shots on Heavner in the first eight minutes, but only one reached the target.
Krollmade his first save of the game in the 56th minute off a high, looping header from Michael Scott. He then made two saves in 15 seconds spanning the 65th and 66th minutes, the first a tremendous leaping stop to force a corner off the foot of Cormac Noel.
Jay Marchand (North Andover, Mass.) had a chance to add a goal to his name on Senior Day, but Heavner came out to deny his tap in attempt.
The River Hawks outshot the Retrievers 18-10, with both teams having eight apiece in the second half. Fernandes had a game-high five shots, and Hauck led the guests with three.
Heavner secured the win with eight saves, four in each half, and Kroll made all three of his stops in the second.
UMass Lowell wraps up its 2015 campaign at Hartford on November 4 at 7 p.m.
