WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The UMass Lowell (7-9-1, 2-4-1) men's soccer team fell in its season finale, 2-0, to the Hartford Hawks (5-7-5, 1-4-2), Wednesday night.
"I thought it was a rough beginning, but the guys responded well in the second half," said Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "We gave up an early goal in the second half to go down 2-0, but the response and energy of the guys in the second was a lot better. Overall, we know we have some things to work on and have room for growth."
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Alex Murry sent in a shot from 25-yards out that avoided the outstretched arms of
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.), off the crossbar and in.
Kroll made the only save of the first half in the sixth minute, while the Hawks outshot the River Hawks 8-1.
Hartford doubled their lead in the 48th minute off a tap in from Jeff Tryon that snuck into the back of the net.
The River Hawks' lone shot on net came in the 66th minute off the foot of
Nana Osei (Ewing, N.J.).
The Hawks outshot UMass Lowell 15-4, Kroll made two saves to end the season with 47. Murry had a game-high five shots and Javoni Simms had a game-high two shots on goal.
The 2015 season marked the third for the River Hawks in Division I and the America East. Stay tuned for the America East Conference Awards.Â
