LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell men's soccer team hosts Stony Brook on Wednesday, October 14 at 7 p.m. for its America East You Can Play game, and then travels to Albany for an 8 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 17.  

Looking at the River Hawks
UMass Lowell (6-5-0, 1-1-0 AE) defeated Binghamton, 1-0, on Oct. 10 for its first America East win of the season. Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) scored his third game-winning goal of the season in the 79th minute, and Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made five saves to record his conference-leading fifth shutout of the year, and the 10th of his career.

Scouting Stony Brook
The Seawolves (4-5-2, 1-1-0) defeated Albany 2-1 in double overtime in their conference opener on Oct. 3, and lost to New Hampshire 3-2 on Oct. 10. Martin Giordano and Vince Erdei lead the team with 13 points apiece, each have scored five goals and added three assists. Alejandro Fritz has dished out a team-high five helpers. In net for Stony Brook, Jason Orban has recorded two shutouts in 11 starts, with a 1.44 goals against average and 44 saves.

"Stony Brook is a quality side. They want to play and connect some long passes to try to break you down going forward. It makes us have to be really disciplined on the defensive side of the ball, so we're not diving in and caught out of position."

Scouting Albany
The Great Danes (5-6-1, 0-0-2) have lost three straight and will host Hartford before taking on the River Hawks. The skid includes losses against Stony Brook, UMBC and No. 22 Syracuse. Afonso Pinheiro leads the team with eight goals and 16 points, while Pedro Espindola has four assists. In net, Eric Orologio and Danny Vitiello has combined for five shutouts. Orologio has made 17 saves with a 0.97 GAA and Vitiello has 34 saves and 1.25 GAA.

Series History
The River Hawks are 1-5 against Albany with last year's 1-0 win. UMass Lowell has fared better against Stony Brook. Including last season's 2-1 victory, the River Hawks are 4-1-1.

New York State of Mind
UMass Lowell is 4-2 against opponents from the state of New York this season, with the losses coming at St. Francis Brooklyn (Sept. 4) and against Canisius (Sept. 13). The River Hawks are 3-1 at home against Empire State teams.

Honors and Awards
Kroll earned America East Co-Player of the Week honors on Sept. 21 … Venta-Yepes was named America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 14 … Nana Osei (Ewing, N.J.), Jay Marchand (North Andover, Mass.) and Venta-Yepes were all named to the Brooklyn Bridge Cup All-Tournament Team.

Save Some Space in the Record Book
With Kroll's five shutouts this season he has 10 career blank sheets, good for fourth place all-time.

Other Notables
The River Hawks are 2-1 this season against teams that made the 2014 NCAA Tournament … the win against LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 6 marked the first win in the series history… the victory over Monmouth on August 28 was the first season-opening win for the River Hawks in the Division I era.
