Jenilo Soares gathered up a loose ball in the box after a corner and fired a low shot past the diving keeper.
The River Hawks (2-5) had their fair share of opportunities to find the back of the net but could not execute in front of the home crowd. The best chances came in the 59th minute when
Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, CapeVerde) hit the post and the rebound was fired over the net by
Nana Osei (Ewing, N.J.)
Two minutes after the Blue Devils (2-2) took the lead
Guilherme Rodrigues (Lowell, Mass.) had a shot on net and
Richard Mulo (Malden, Mass.) put the ball over the open net.
Head Coach
Christian Figueroa was impressed with the team's ability to achieve the game plan, but admitted that the execution of putting points on the board needs to be worked on.
"We had a good game plan ready, I thought we executed fairly well. We had some chances early on, it just comes down to some finishing. Whether it's the post or some point blank chances, we made it fairly easy on the keeper."
The River Hawks outshot the Blue Devils 15-12, 11 coming in the second half. Rodrigues led the team with four. Freddy Mettellus led the visitors with three shots.
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made four saves in net for UMass Lowell. Nick Velleca matched the effort and stopped four shots as well for Central Connecticut.
The River Hawks will try to end the three-game skid as they travel up to Dartmouth College for a matchup against the Big Green on September 19. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
