@RiverHawkMSocLOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell men's soccer team looks to continue on its winning streak with the final two matchups of the season-opening six game road trip.
At the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Windjammer Classic, the River Hawks outscored opponents 5-1 in a pair of wins and were crowned the champions on goal-differential.
Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) and
Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) led the team with two goals apiece, and were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Fernandes was named the tournament MVP.
Keeper
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.), who earned his first two career collegiate wins and first shutout joined the duo on the All-Tournament Team, along with
Richard Mulo (Malden, Mass.) and
Carlos Ruiz (East Boston, Mass.).
Following the weekend, UMass Lowell will play at the friendly confines of Cushing Field for the first time this season with a matchup against Central Connecticut State on Sept 16.
The OpponentsBryant University [1-3-0]
The Bulldogs have lost each of their previous two games in double-overtime by scores of 3-2. Junior forward Brett Larocque leads the team with three goals and 15 shots. Junior keeper Chris Knaub has made 26 saves and has a1.88 goals against average.
The River Hawks hold the advantage in the all-time series with an 11-9-2 mark, but the Bulldogs won the previous meeting in 2013, 3-2.
Northeastern University [1-3-0]
The Huskies come into the matchup on a three-game losing streak, and have not scored a goal since August 29. Frantzdy Pierrot has the lone goal on the season, and Daniel Arvidsson tallied the lone assist. Dylan Faber and Jonathan Thuresson have shared time in the net, with Thuresson earning the win. Faber has made six saves in his one game, while Thuresson has stopped 12 shots.
The last time these two teams faced off on the pitch was 1991. Northeastern won that game 5-1 and leads the series history with a 6-2 record.
