WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Brown sweeps the weekend series from the River Hawks Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg, Va. at Plumeri Park.

The River Hawks fell 9-3 and are happy to get out of Williamsburg after three straight losses in Virginia this weekend.

UMass Lowell falls to 8-6 on the season, while Brown improves to 3-5. The River Hawks will have a busy week ahead, visiting Bryant Tuesday, at Northeastern on Wednesday and a three game series at Maine next weekend.

"We are going through the growing pains of playing good teams every time out," said head coach Ken Harring. "We have a team that does not have much room for error."

Junior Danny Mendick (Rochester, N.Y.) was a homerun short of hitting for the cycle today. Mendick went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs to lead UMass Lowell offense. He raised his batting average to a team-high .340 and has club high nine RBI on the season.

Senior Mike Calzetta (Lawrence, Mass.) took the loss for the River Hawks and fell to 1-1 on the season. Calzetta went five innings given up four hits and four runs, while striking out seven.

The Bears Marc Sredojevic hit a three run homerun to right field in the bottom of the third to take the early lead. Mendick would cut the deficit to two after a RBI single to center that scored junior Jacob O'Keefe (Wellington, Fla.) in the fifth.

Trailing 6-1 in the seventh junior Luke Reynolds (Manchester, N.H.) hit a one out single to right field to score junior Kelly Rooney (Upton, Mass.). Reynolds finished the day going 1-for-2, with a RBI, one run scored and three walks.

Both clubs had ten hits, but it was the River Hawks who left nine men on base compared to just five for Brown.

Antony Galan earned the win after scattering nine hits and two runs over 6.2 innings of work. Max Ritchie closed the door throwing the final 2.1 innings allowing one run. Galan improved to 1-1 on the season.
