Matt Mottola (Newburport, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the River Hawks fell 8-2 to Brown this afternoon in Williamsburg, Va. at Plumeri Park.
UMass Lowell falls to 8-5 on the season, while Brown improves to 2-5. The same to clubs will meet again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. back in Williamsbug, Va.
Senior
Shane Beauchemin (Manchester, N.H.) started for the River Hawks and had his shortest outing of the season after struggling with his command early. Beauchemin lasted just 2.0 innings and surrender seven runs, six earned on 10 hits and now has a 2-1 record.
"Beauchemin didn't have his command today and their pitcher was ahead of hitters all day," said head coach
Ken Harring. "That was the difference."
Brown jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second after three straight doubles and a pair of singles.
The River Hawks would get one back in the bottom half of the inning helped by two errors by the Bears. Mottola would score on a single by freshman
Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.). Strom finished the day going 1-for-3.
Senior
Garret Cole (Bedford, N.H.) pitched five innings in relief giving up a lone run on three hits.

The Bears four, six and seven hitters Joshua Huntley, Daniel Massey and Marc Sredojevic combined for seven hits and six RBI.
Brown freshman Christian Taugner pitched 7.1 strong innings allowing just two runs and five hits. Taugner had eight strikeouts and improved to 1-2 on the season. Austin French finished the game pitching the final 1.2 innings not allowing a hit and striking out two.
