BLACKSBURG, Va. – Hokies' junior Alex Perez notched an RBI single to give Virginia Tech a 4-3 win in 11 innings over UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon at English Field in Blacksburg, Va.   .

With the win Virginia Tech is 5-2 overall, while UMass Lowell falls to 4-2 on the season. The River Hawks and Hokies will have a short rest as both teams will play again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the Virginia Tech Tournament.

Senior Nick Boutoures (Wilmington, Mass.) worked out of a bases loaded, no out jam to push the game into the 11 innings. The Hokies hit into a fielders choice for the first out after a ground ball came right to Ricoy, who threw home for the force play. Boutoures then struck out the next two guys to secure the tie.

Boutoures would eventually get the loss after allowing the first two batters to reach in the bottom of the 11 before freshman Raz Bracha (Irvine, Calif.) gave up the single to Perez. Hokie's senior Tanner McIntyre earned the win after pitching a 5.2 scoreless innings.

The Hokies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, after a pair of errors and a walk, Virginia Tech had the bases loaded on a walk, sacrifice fly, a single and the Hokies took the early advantage.

"It was a great effort, we just couldn't overcome our first inning mistakes," said head coach Ken Harring. "We competed our tails off and it is a big step in the right direction for UMass Lowell baseball."

Junior Geoff DeGroot (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) hit a two-out, two RBI bases loaded single to left field to cut the score 2-3 in the top of the third.

After a leadoff double by junior Jimmy Ricoy (Lowell, Mass.) in the top of the sixth classmate Matthew Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) hit a RBI single to center field to tie the game at three.

Senior Shane Beauchemin (Manchester, N.H.) picked up a no decision, working seven innings and surrendering three runs, one earned run on four hits. He struck out five and had two walks on the day.  Sophomore Jordan Del Sol (Elizabeth, N.J.) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings giving up three hits and a pair of walks.

The Hokies had 11 hits compared to just five for the River Hawks and left 11 men on bases, nine left on base for UMass Lowell.
