SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: The River Hawks bounced back from a 66-54 loss at Providence by rallying past Yale, 80-72, on Monday night. Sophomore guard Nicole Hayner caught fire with her team trailing 44-39 four minutes into the second half. Hayner went on a personal run of nine unanswered and sparked the River Hawks who ripped off a 21-6 run to turn the three point deficit into a 60-50 lead.
Four members from the home side reached double-figure point totals led by the senior backcourt duo of Shannon Samuels and Jasmine McRoy who combined to score 45 points. Samuels poured in a game-high 24 points while McRoy added 21 points and tied her career-high of 11 rebounds. Junior Forward Lindsey Doucette claimed her second double-double in three games, scoring 15 points to go with 10 rebounds while Hayner netted a season-high 12 points.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: The Bulldogs enter the matchup with a 6-2 record following a 66-64 loss at the hands of Cornell. Bryant has two three-game winning streaks this season. The entire starting five is averaging double-digits in points, led by Jenniqua Bailey's 16.5. The senior also leads the team with six assists and 2.4 steals per game. Breanna Rucker controls the glass for Bryant with 10 rebounds a game while shooting at a 41.4 percent clip from three-point range. The Bulldogs are shooting 38.7 percent (189-488) from the field, and 32.7 percent (50-153) from beyond the arc.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The squads will get together for the 32nd edition of a series that began in 1982-83. The teams met last season in Smithfield, R.I. for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign, with the Bulldogs handling the River Hawks 100-52. Lindsey Doucette filled the stat sheet in a losing effort by posting team-highs in points (13), rebounds (5), steals (5), assists (4) and blocks (3). Shannon Samuels trailed her in the scoring column with 12 points.
All of the Bulldog starters had ten or more points, led by Naana Ankoma-Mensa who scored a game-high 20.Turnovers were a major factor in the games outcome as Bryant forced the River Hawks into 24, their second highest mark of the season, and turned it into 33 points.
PROTECTING THE NEST: The River Hawks enter tonightís contest winners of their last three home games after defeating Mt. Ida, Fairleigh Dickinson and Yale. In the three wins at the Costello Athletic Center, the team is beating their opponents by an average margin of 23.67 points.
HAYNER BREAKS OUT: Sophomore Nicole Hayner entered Monday nightís game with 10 points and had connected on 2 of her 13 attempts from downtown in 39 minutes before breaking out against Yale. The guard scored a season-high 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, including a 3-for-5 showing from distance. Hayner ignited the teamës second half surge by scoring nine unanswered points on her own over a span of 1:12, part of the 21-6 run by the River Hawks that flipped the complexion of the game.
GETTING COMFORTABLE: The team seems to have settled into first year head coach Jenerrie Harris' offense. Over the past five games the River Hawks are shooting 47.6 percent (140/294 FG) from the field compared to the 37.0 percent (64/173 FG) they shot through the first three losses.
DUB-DUB FOR DOUCETTE: Junior Lindsey Doucette finished Monday's game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, good for her second double-double in three game. The forward produced seven double-doubles last season. Her first double-double came in a 14 point (6/10 FG) and 11 rebound showing in a road win over Columbia. She also handed out three assists, blocked two shots and picked up a steal against the Lions. Doucette has improved her efficiency from the field and sits seventh in the America East with a 52.5 field goal percentage, over 10 percent higher than the 41.8 percent she shot last season.
The Hopkinton native is also getting it done on the glass where she ranks 11th in the AE in rebounds with 6.8 per game and is fifth in blocks swatting one shot per game.
