"Our guys battled today. New Hampshire played well and created dangerous opportunity, but our guys did well to keep them off the board. I thought our back four and goalkeeper had an outstanding game against a UNH side that played well for their seniors on senior day," said Head Coach
Christian Figueroa after the win.
The River Hawks (8-8-1, 4-1-1) were outshot 23-10, including 18-4 in the second half, but
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made eight saves for the win.
New Hampshire (5-10-1, 1-5-0) had multiple scoring chances in each half but could not get the touch they needed to get on the board. After the first 45 minutes UMass Lowell held an advantage in shots 6-5 and corner kicks 3-0. Kroll made three of his saves, and Travis Worra made three for UNH.
Less than 10 minutes before Fitzgerald's heroics the Wildcats had another chance to take the lead but were denied by Kroll and the crossbar. In the 56th minute Christopher Wingate sent a long shot that bounced up on Kroll, the rebound bounced to David Schlatter all alone in front. Schlatter had a completely empty net, but his header hit the crossbar.
