LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's soccer team opens up America East play with a tilt at UMBC on October 4 at 7 p.m.
River Hawk ReviewUMass Lowell enters conference play with a 3-7 record and looks to build off of the momentum of the team's 2-0 win over Sacred Heart on September 27. The River Hawks have been off since and have another week off until October 11 after the matchup with UMBC.
Flying HighWuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) leads the River Hawks with three goals for six points.
Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) also has six points coming from two goals and two assists.
Carlos Ruiz (East Boston, Mass.) and
Guilherme Rodrigues (Lowell, Mass.) are both tied with Morais with two assists each.
Bryan Amaris (West Haven, Conn.) and Rodrigues, both sophomores, scored their first goals of the season in the win against Sacred Heart. Freshman goalkeeper
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) leads the team with 52 saves and two shutouts.
Scouting UMBCThe reigning America East champions knocked off No. 23 Delaware in their lat game, earning Head Coach Pete Caringi's 250th win at the school. The Retrievers enter this weekend's contest with one win in their last six games (1-4-1). Three of the four losses were one-goal decisions with two coming in overtime. Kay Banjo leads UMBC with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
