Quick First Half Goals Lift Florida Atlantic Over UMass Lowell, 3-1

Junior Homero Morais: UMass Lowell's first Division I goal.
Box Score
Florida Atlantic University scored goals one minute apart late in the first half and never trailed en route to a 3-1 victory over UMass Lowell Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer clash at the FAU Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-2 and visits Niagara University Friday at 4:00 and Canisius College Sunday at 1:00 before opening at home Thursday Sept. 12 against Bryant University (7:00).

Florida Atlantic improved to 1-0-1 and hosts Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday at 7:00.

UMass Lowell surrendered goals in the 36th and 37th minutes before junior F Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) and senior Dan Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) combined nicely to cut the lead in half at the break.

The Owls took a 1-0 lead when F Ryan Price crossed form the right flank to the far post to junior M Deniz Bozkurt, who beat senior GK Chris Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.) to the low left corner.
Just a minute later, Price doubled the lead when he possessed an errant pass at the top of the box and slotted home in the low left corner.

Morais gave the River Hawks a lifeline in the 41st minute when he finished a cross from Galvin on the right. Morais nearly brought the River Hawks level on the stroke of halftime, but his 25-yard effort was wide right.

UMass Lowell continued to chip away shortly into the second half and nearly equalized. Freshman M Eric Martin (Danvers, Mass.) broke free down the right side and crossed to Morais, but his one-timer went right at FAU goalkeeper Theo Jamilloux.

The Owls struck for a third goal in the 70th minute when Ramin Rahemi released Daniel Montoya behind the defense and slotted past Maierle.

Shots favored FAU 6-4 overall and 4-3 on frame. Maierle had one save for the River Hawks while Jamilloux stopped three shots.
