Senior F Evan Jimmo scored the lone goal in overtime as Stetson University defeated UMass Lowell, 1-0, Friday night in a season-opening men's soccer clash in Deland, Fla.
The match was UMass Lowell's first as an NCAA Division I institution and part of a two-match swing over the weekend. The River Hawks (0-1) visit Florida Atlantic University Sunday at 1:00.
Stetson visits the University of South Florida Monday at 7:30.
The match, which began at 5:00, was delayed nearly two hours midway through the second half due to lightning.
Stetson scored the winner 1:05 into overtime when senior F Evan Jimmo took the rebound off and fired from the left side of the box into the upper right corner of the goal.
Stetson outshot UMass Lowell 14-9 overall and 5-1 on target. The River Hawks, however, posted an 11-3 edge on corner kicks, including 8-0 in the second half.
