Senior
Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.) had two hits and an RBI, but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell dropped game one of Sunday's double-header with New Haven, 4-3.
The loss dropped the River Hawks to 12-15 on the season. UMass Lowell remains 4-2 in the Northeast division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
New Haven improved to 17-7 with the victory. The Chargers are 3-2 in division play.
New Haven broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when Lindsey Couturier laced a 2-RBI double to center field.
Later in that inning, the Chargers built on its lead when Lucy Francisco ripped a single to center, plating the third run of the inning for New Haven.
Still, UMass Lowell didn't go down quietly. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, junior
Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and came through with a huge 2-RBI single, cutting the New Haven lead to 4-3.
Unfortunately, UMass Lowell was unable to push the tying run across the plate and fell to the Chargers, 4-3.
Freshman
Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) took the loss for the River Hawks. Handley pitched four innings and allowed four runs on seven hits.
Micah Stonesifer picked up the victory for New Haven. She pitched all seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out eight.
UMass Lowell couldn't quiet the New Haven bats, as the River Hawks fell to the Chargers, 12-0 in six innings in the second game of Sunday's double-header at River View Field in Lowell, Mass.

The scoring brigade began in the first inning when Lindsey Couturier put the Chargers on the board with an RBI single.
Leading 3-0 in the third inning, Lucy Francisco broke the game open for New Haven when she ripped a 2-RBI single down the third base line, giving the Chargers a 5-0 advantage.

Courtney Lanfranchi (Burlington, Mass.) took the loss for the River Hawks. Lanfranchi pitched five innings and allowed eight runs on eleven hits while striking out three.
Nicole King picked up the victory for the Chargers. King pitched all six innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three.
