Tyler Toyfair (Agawam, Mass.) dazzled on the mound, tossing seven innings of one-run ball as UMass Lowell came away with a big 13-2 win over Merrimack College in game one of Wednesday's double-header in Lowell, Mass.
The game one win brings the River Hawks to 25-15 overall on the season and 7-6 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
The loss drops the Warriors to 20-15 overall on the season and 6-7 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
UMass Lowell fell behind in the first inning when Mark O'Flynn grounded out to second, forcing in Casey Cotter and giving the Warriors a 1-0 advantage.
However, the lead would be short lived.
After tying the game at one in the third inning, UMass Lowell blew the game open with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of senior
James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.).
The long ball was Katsiroubas' fourth of the season.
Leading 7-1, UMass Lowell plated six more in the sixth, including a three-run triple by freshman
Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.).
Consolmagno finished the game four for five with a walk, four RBI and a three runs scored.
By innings end, UMass Lowell held a 13-1 lead.
Senior

Tim Cashman took the loss for Merrimack. Cashman made it through just four and one third innings before being lifted. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out five.

Matt Mottola (Newburyport, Mass.) laced an RBI single, allowing senior
Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, Mass.) to score.
However, from there, it was all Merrimack.
The Warriors broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs including a two-RBI single by Mark O'Flynn.
UMass Lowell staged a late comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a run on an error by the Merrimack pitcher and two more on a double by sophomore
Jimmy Ricoy (Lowell, Mass.).
However, Merrimack's lead was large enough to hold on for the 7-4 victory.
Sophomore
Christian Lavoie (Hopkington, Mass.) took the loss for UMass Lowell. Lavoie pitched four and one thirds innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits while striking out three.
Alek Morency picked up the win for Merrimack. Morency tossed seven innings and allowed just one runs on seven hits while striking out three.
