Eric Martin (Danvers, Mass.) accounted for the lone goal as UMass Lowell and the University of Vermont played to a 1-1 deadlock in double overtime Saturday afternoon in an America East Conference men's soccer clash at the Archie Post Athletic Complex.

With the draw, UMass Lowell currently stands at 3-12-1 overall and 1-3-1 in America East entering next Saturday's home clash against No. 7 Maryland-Baltimore County (1:00). Vermont is currently 8-3-4 overall and 2-2-1 in the Conference and visits Stony Brook Saturday at 7:00.

"I think we're cutting back on some of our mistakes and improving our consistency," said Head coach
Christian Figueroa. "Our defending of restarts has really improved and that was evident today. We had a real sense of urgency today and we took care of the ball going forward."

Vermont opened the scoring in the 19
th minute when senior M Beau Johnson launched a free kick which was flicked on by sophomore M Charlie DeFeo to the foot of senior B Salvatore Borea, who rifled home.

Martin brought UMass Lowell level in the 52
nd minute, doing well to earn a corner kick to the left of the goal. Senior M
Kevin Zapata (Medellin, Colombia) steered the corner to the far post where Martin headed home for his third goal of the season.

Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) threaded a ball through the Catamount defense to junior F
Eric DeSantis (Woburn, Mass.). DeSantis attempted to slot by UVM goalkeeper Conor Leland who kicked wide.

The River Hawks had another chance in the 79
th when Fernandes' header in a crowd off a cross was just wide left.

The Catamounts nearly won the match in the final minute when an attempt by senior B Scott Kisling rattled the left post out of a scramble.

Vermont had a 13-11 edge on total shots, but shots on target were even at 5-5. Senior GK
Chris Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.) stopped four shots while Leland also had four saves.
