Butler leads UMass Lowell at Brown University Rothenberg Run

Butler places 15th; America East Championship Nov. 2

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (Oct. 18, 2013) – Senior Gina Butler (Dracut, Mass.) placed 15th in a field of 57 runners to lead the UMass Lowell women's cross country team at the Brown University Rothenberg Run Friday afternoon at Goddard State Park.
 
UMass Lowell scored 132 points (15, 24, 28, 29, 36) and placed fifth among six teams. Brown University won the team title with 22 points (2, 3, 4, 5, 8) while Dartmouth was the runner-up (48) and Boston College (80) the third-place finisher.
 
The University of Rhode Island placed fourth with 91 points while St. John's took sixth with 170 points.
 
Butler ran the 5K course in 18 minutes, 35.8 seconds while freshman Erin Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) placed 34th overall and 24th among scoring runners in 19:35.1; and freshman Renee Vigneault (Amesbury, Mass.) 42nd/28th in 20:02.8.
 
Freshman Jennifer Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed 43rd/29th in 20:08.7 while sophomore Chelsey Pepin (Derry, N.H.) placed 52nd/36th in 21:22.4. Sophomore Megan Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) placed 53rd overall in 21:40.8.
 
Several runners may be selected to run at next week's Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet. The River Hawks are also gearing for the America East Conference Championship Saturday, Nov. 2, hosted by Binghamton University.
