Sophomore F Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) scored his fifth goal in four matches and senior M Bruno Bonicontro (Marlbroro, Mass.) scored his sixth in as many matches as UMass Lowell defeated the University of New Haven, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Kayo Field.

With the win, UMass Lowell equaled its best-ever start in the modern era with a 6-0-1 record and a 5-0-0 clip in the NE-10 entering Tuesday's home clash against Bentley (7:00).

UMass Lowell's record matched that of the 2000 team which went 6-0-1 before it suffered its first loss and posted a 10-7-3 clip.  

New Haven slipped to 3-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Conference.

UMass Lowell started fast, taking a 3-0 lead after 26 minutes, started by Morais who opened the scoring in the seventh minute with help from sophomore M Felipe Fagundes (Lowell, Mass.).

Bonicontro and junior M Daniel Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) gave the River Hawks a 3-0 cushion just 1:53 apart in the 24^th and 26^th minutes. Bonicontro tallied unassisted while Galvin followed with his second goal of the year off nice work from junior M Kevin Zapata (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

New Haven found its rhythm in the second half with goals nearly three minutes apart. Senior Joseph D'Antonio took a through-ball from freshman Cam Soltis and slotted past junior GK Chris Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Just 2:40 later, the Chargers inched closer when sophomore Andres Torres possessed out of a scramble and lashed home to cut the deficit to 3-2.

New Haven outshot UMass Lowell 12-11 overall, but the River Hawks had a 6-5 edge on target. Maierle had three saves while freshman GK James Pyatski also stopped three shots.
