At one point this season, Le Moyne College had just four wins in their first 20 games. Since, the Dolphins have gone 22-8 and have won 11 of their last 12.

The UMass Lowell softball team, seeded No. 5, meets a No. 4 Le Moyne squad currently in its peak Wednesday (2:00) in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament quarterfinal in Syracuse, N.Y.

The game was shifted to Wednesday due to forecasted showers in Syracuse on Tuesday.

Southern Connecticut (36-8 overall, 24-6 in the NE-10) earned the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 Stonehill (24-14, 17-13) while No. 2 Adelphi (34-17-1, 22-8) hosts No. 7 New Haven (27-19, 17-13), both on Tuesday. No. 3 Assumption (28-15, 21-9) hosts No. 6 Southern New Hampshire (28-18, 18-12) on Wednesday.

With a victory, UMass Lowell (33-15, 19-11 NE-10) meets the winner between Southern Connecticut and Stonehill Friday at 10:00 a.m.

The semifinals and final will be played in a double elimination format at the site of the highest remaining seed. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children 12 and under; and $1 for students with valid identification.

While the Dolphins (26-24, 20-10) are in a groove, UMass Lowell also finds itself in a revival. The River Hawks had suffered six losses in its last nine games entering last Saturday's pivotal twin bill with Assumption, in which they regrouped impressively to deal the Greyhounds 2-0 and 4-2 losses.

UMass Lowell split with Le Moyne on Mar. 31, losing the opener 4-3 but winning the second game by the same score.

“Le Moyne will be our toughest challenge of the year,” said head coach Sean Cotter. “They are the hottest team in the Northeast-10 over the last three weeks. It is a tough place to play and we will have to have a great approach to continue on in the tournament.”

Senior pitcher/designated hitter Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) leads UMass Lowell this season with a .397 average, 41 RBI, 23 runs scored and eight home runs. Freshman Ariana Darcy (Walkill, N.Y.), named the NE-10 Player/Rookie of the Week Monday, is hitting .349 with 39 runs, 25 RBI and a Conference-best seven triples. She has also stolen 24 bases in as many attempts.

Junior Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.) has also provided plenty of spark with a .338 average, 39 runs, 26 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

On the mound, the River Hawks have relied on Boris (19-8), who has registered a 3.21 ERA and 83 strikeouts over 174.1 innings; and freshman Courtney Lanfranchi (Burlington, Mass.), who has posted a 3.19 ERA with six shutouts over 144.2 innings.
