Box Score
Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) each knocked in a pair of runs to lead UMass Lowell baseball to a 10-3 victory at Post University on Monday afternoon.

The non-conference victory boosted the River Hawks to 20-13-1 overall, while the Eagles fell to 11-22 on the campaign.

The bulk of UMass Lowell's offense on the day came in the second inning where it plated seven runs to effectively take control of the game. The first blow was struck on an errant play that brought home Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, Mass.). Moments later Matthew Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) smacked an RBI single through the left side. A few batters after that, Matt Jacobs (Hudson, Mass.) drew a bases loaded walk and then Sanchez scored on an error. As the momentum kept gaining, Kneeland clubbed a two-run single to right field and Sanborn hit an RBI single to right-center.

Post got a couple runs back in the seventh, scoring on a RBI single by Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) and a two-run single by Kevin Fearon (Williston Park, N.Y.).

The lead was reestablished to seven in the ninth as the River Hawks pegged three more runs. Sanborn connected on a one-out solo home run off the left field foul pole, while Zach Berger (Coral Gables, Fla.) scored on an error and Greg Wilson (Medford, Mass.) added an RBI single.

On the mound, UMass Lowell got a terrific performance out of freshman Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, Mass.). Lavoie lasted eight innings, allowed three runs and struck out six to improve to 2-0 on the season. Reliever Matt Novak (Hampstead, N.H.) pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the ballgame.

For the day, Sanborn finished 4-for-5 with two RBI, two runs and a home run. Kneeland was also strong with a 2-for-5 day at the plate and two RBI.

With the win in the books, UMass Lowell stays in action as it travels to Merrimack on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
