Box Score Seniors
Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) and
Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) combined for five RBI but the UMass Lowell softball team suffered an 11-7 loss to Kutztown Saturday afternoon in eight innings.
The loss halted a four-game winning streak for UMass Lowell, which slipped to 6-2 entering Sunday's twin bill against Dowling (9:00) and Mercy College (1:00).
Kutztown improved to 10-1.
Boris batted 3 for 3 with two RBI, a double, a run and a walk while Panarelli went 1 for 4 with two runs and a three-run home run in the third inning. Freshman LF
Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) batted 2 for 4 with a run while junior CF
Ashley Daniels (Medford, Mass.) also hit 2 for 4.
Boris took the loss and slipped to 4-1 on the season. She scattered 11 hits, eight earned runs and two walks while striking out three over 7.0 innings.
Sophomore P Samantha Derr earned the win to improve to 3-0. Derr allowed two hits, a run and a walk while striking out one in the final 2.0 innings.
Junior SS Brianna Knipe led Kutztown, batting 3 for 3 with three runs and a walk while junior OF Maria Isgro went 2 for 2 with three runs and three RBI. Derr batted 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run while freshman 2B Kelly Strittmatter went 2 for 5 with one run and one RBI.
UMass Lowell led 5-3 entering the sixth inning, but the Golden Bears erupted for three runs for a 6-5 lead. Isgro led the rally with a two-run double and later scored on a double by Derr.
UMass Lowell knotted the score in the bottom half of the seventh to force extra innings when senior SS
Meagan Guy (Berlin, Conn.) ripped a solo home run to left field.
Kutztown, however, scored four more in the eighth inning behind RBI singles by Isgro and Derr.
