Box Score

Junior M Daniel Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) scored two goals, and sophomore F Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) converted a penalty kick goal as UMass Lowell defeated Le Moyne College, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal match.

The win sends UMass Lowell to the semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 2, where it will visit No. 2 Southern New Hampshire at 7:00. Southern New Hampshire defeated No. 7 Southern Connecticut, 5-0. In the other semifinal, No. 1 Merrimack, a 3-1 winner of No. 8 American International, will host No. 5 Franklin Pierce, which defeated Bentley, 3-1.

UMass Lowell improved to 13-4-1 overall, while Le Moyne ends its season at 7-9-1.

Galvin broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute on a touch pass from Morais. The pass hit Galvin in stride as he won the race to ball and beat junior GK Matthew Silva for his sixth goal of the season.

In the 36th minute, a Le Moyne handball led to a UMass Lowell penalty kick. The River Hawks took advantage of the opportunity as Morais tucked his 12th goal of the season to the bottom left of the net, giving UMass Lowell a 2-0 advantage.

The UMass Lowell offense struck again in the second half as Galvin added his second goal on a pass from junior M Neil Lavanchy (Scituate, Mass.). Lavanchy crossed the net to Galvin, who was perfectly positioned to notch his seventh goal of the year, stretching the UMass Lowell lead to 3-0.

The Dolphins pulled back within two in the 66th when a corner kick from freshman M Mark Gentile found junior M Jamie Carolissen, who headed past junior GK Christopher Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.), to bring the score to 3-1.

UMass Lowell outshot Le Moyne 18-12 overall and 8-7 on target. Maierle stopped five shots while Silva had six saves.
