Box Score | Figueroa: I believed we could get here

Sophomore M Daniel Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) scored the lone goal in the 57th minute to lead No. 3 UMass Lowell over No. 6 Southern Connecticut, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal at George Larkin Field.

With the victory, UMass Lowell (11-6-0) meets the winner between No. 2 Southern New Hampshire and No. 7 Bentley University Friday, time and venue to be announced. Southern Connecticut ends its season with an 8-8-1 clip.

Sophomore GK Connor Askins (Boston, Mass.) earned his second clean sheet of the year with one save and solid command of the box. The shutout was UMass Lowell's fifth of the season and second in three matches.

UMass Lowell capitalized when senior B Asley Barrios (Revere, Mass.) sent an inswinging corner kick to the far post to sophomore B Alex Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.), who headed back into the box to the oncoming Galvin, who headed home from the six-yard box inside the left post.

The River Hawks maintained the pressure and nearly doubled their lead in the 73rd when junior M Bruno Bonicontro (Marlborough, Mass.) did well to pressure an Owl defender deep in the box, won the ball and crossed to freshman F Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) inside the top of the box, who settled and rung the crossbar.

Other than the goal, Morais provided the highlight of the match and nearly put UMass Lowell ahead in the 22nd minute. Bonicontro sent a ball over the Owl defense to Morais at the top of the box, who chested, turned and side-volleyed off the left post.

UMass Lowell outshot the Owls 13-6 overall and 5-1 on frame. Senior GK Andrew Esposito had four saves for Southern Connecticut.
