Senior guard Bianca Simmons (Middletown, Conn.) was named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Thursday after leading the women's basketball to victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (84-76), Southern New Hampshire (96-82) and American International (74-53).

Last Wednesday Simmons set a new career high with 38 points in double overtime win at Palm Beach. She followed that up with 32 points at Southern New Hampshire on Sunday and 31 points at American International last night.

For the season Simmons is averaging 26.4 points per a game, 7.3 rebounds per a game, and 5.9 assists per a game. Simmons currently leads the nation in points per a game.

Simmons was also named NE-10 Player of the Week on Monday.

Simmons is the daughter of Cheryl and Reginald Simmons of Middletown, Conn.
