BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Lowell field hockey sophomore goalkeeper Marie Oliemans (Driebergen, Netherlands) has been named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Oliemans registered eight saves in the second half to help propel the River Hawks to a 1-0 victory against Wake Forest of the ACC on September 22.
The sophomore keeper has now contributed to three shutouts so far this season, as the team has not allowed a single goal at home in 2024.
Oliemans has made 40 saves already this year, boasting an .870 save percentage and a 2-1 record.
For her efforts, Oliemans was also tabbed River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
Oliemans and the River Hawks open America East play when they visit UAlbany at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.
