After making a game-winning steal and score, senior
Ayinde Hikim (Washington, D.C.) of the UMass Lowell men's basketball team has been named River Hawk of the Week for the second time this season.
Â
In Saturday's conference opener against NJIT, Hikim made an impact on both ends of the floor, totaling 12 points, two assists and a team-high four steals. Trailing by 10 with under four minutes remaining, the River Hawks rallied, putting together a 13-0 run to close out the game. With 30 seconds remaining and down one, the River Hawk defense pressed, forcing a dangerous pass out of the Highlanders that Hikim intercepted and took coast-to-coast for the layup that would prove to be the difference maker.
Hikim has played a huge part in the River Hawks' early-season success, pacing the squad in both assists (61) and steals (21). He also ranks third on the team with 10.1 points per game, and fourth with 42 total rebounds.
