David Saur

David Saur is in his first season as an assistant coach for the UMass Lowell women's basketball team.

Saur, who spent the last two years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Stetson University (2013-2015), will assume the same responsibilities. Saur was also responsible for coordinating the teams’ defensive efforts along with mentoring the post players. During his time with the Hatters, the team reached the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) in consecutive seasons. The Hatters also recorded a program record for wins over any two year span with 50 and single season with 27 (2013-2014).

As one of the nation’s youngest recruiting coordinators, Saur’s first recruiting class with the Hatters saw him put together the #69 Recruiting Class in the country (first in the Atlantic Sun), according to the All-Star Girl’s Report. In two seasons with Stetson Saur recruited 3 members of the conference's end of season all-freshman team, including 2016 freshman of the year Mckenna Beach and Myka Johnson-Matthews who was 2nd in votes for the award. FGBScouting.com also named Saur A-Sun assistant coach of the year as well as one of the top mid-major assistant coaches in the country following the 2014-2015 season.

While working with the post players Saur developed A-Sun Freshman of the Year Amber Porter, A-Sun All-Freshman Team member Sarah Sagerer and First Team All-Conference member Sasha Sims and, Porter was also named to the first team. Sims and Porter ranked first and second on the team in scoring and blocked shots. Porter posted the highest single-season blocks total in school history (129) and the fifth highest blocks total for a freshman in NCAA history. The Hatters ranked in the top 55 in the country for scoring defense (58.6 ppg) and top 15 in the country for defensive field goal percentage (35%) during the 2014-2015 season.

Saur also spent time at NCAA Division II powers Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2012-2013) and California University of Pennsylvania (2011-2012) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure at both institutions Saur was able to reach the NCAA Tournament along with posting over 40 wins in two seasons and have teams ranked in the national top 25 in consecutive seasons. Prior to those stints he spent 2008-2011 being an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for both the men’s and women’s teams at NCAA Division III Thiel College while helping set the men’s programs record for wins in a season (20) along with recording an undefeated conference regular season.

Saur has trained and developed the skills of many players drafted in the NBA from his hometown of Baltimore, MD. Saur has had the opportunity to work with players such as; Dajuan Summer (Detroit Pistons), Donte Greene (Sacramento Kings), Sam Young (Memphis Grizzles) and Kim English (Detroit Pistons).

Saur earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Thiel in 2011 and his master’s degree in sport management from Cal U in 2012.
