A former collegiate runner himself at both Rend Lake Junior College and Eastern Illinois University, Hahn brings years of experience to the program. In his last semester at Eastern Illinois, he served as the assistant to director of operations for men's and women's track and field after spending five years as a volunteer assistant coach at Mount Vernon Township High School in Illinois. Following his graduation from Eastern Illinois in 2018, he moved on to the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for men's and women's cross country and track and field. While there, he helped build the newly reinstated program to a top team in the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
This led to a volunteer coaching opportunity at Purdue, where he helped coach a NCAA Championship-qualifying cross country team. During the spring of 2022, Hahn moved on to the America East and joined the staff at Binghamton where he coached an NCAA All-American and sixth-place finisher, an All-America Honorable Mention and both America East runner-up cross country teams in 2022. In the spring of 2023, he helped coach another All-America Honorable Mention in the steeplechase as well as an America East Individual Champion in both the mile and 1,500m. With this experience, he is extremely familiar with the UMass Lowell programs.

Hahn earned associate degrees in both science and arts from Rend Lake College in 2015, a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Eastern Illinois in 2018 and a master's degree in family and consumer science from University of Tennessee at Martin in 2020.
