NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The UMass Lowell men's cross country team claimed the victory with 48 points at the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday afternoon at Central Connecticut State University, with nearly every River Hawk recording a personal best.
"Both teams ran outstanding," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It was great to see the kids finishing up their season with almost all personal bests. The kids were rested and peaked perfectly for this race, which gives us a lot of confidence heading into next week for conference for the kids that have been following the same program. It was a great confidence builder with the men winning the meet."
Junior Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) led the River Hawks, placing fourth out of 99 finishers with a personal-best time of 14:51.6. Senior Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) also earned top-10 finishes, with Uzzo taking seventh in a personal-best 14:56.9 and Hall placing 10th in a personal-best 15:01.6.
Freshmen Lucas Gomez (Salem, N.H.), sophomore Joshua Toth (Milton, Mass.) and freshman Benjamin Schildgen (Litchfield, Conn.) finished consecutively in 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively, each recording a personal best. Gomez crossed the line in 15:08.2, while Toth and Schildgen both clocked in at 15:10.5. Freshman Jimmy Kelly (Lowell, Mass.) rounded out the River Hawks' scoring group, placing 18th with a personal-best time of 15:17.5.
Fourteen additional River Hawks also competed in the meet, contributing to a strong overall showing for the squad.
UMass Lowell will look to carry that momentum into the America East Cross Country Championship next Friday, October 30, at UAlbany.
