A standout player from 2006-08, Jamie Wangia enters his second full season with the UMass Lowell men's soccer team after joining the coaching staff midway through the 2010 season
Wangia will have a hand in every facet of the program, including recruiting, practice and tactical management, as well as offseason training.
A 6-foot-2 attacking midfielder, Wangia helped lead UMass Lowell to a 32-12-14 record over three years which included NCAA Tournament bids in 2007 and 2008. He enjoyed his best year as a senior in which he compiled eight goals and six assists and helped lead the River Hawks to a 13-4-4 record (9-1-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference) and a share of the NE-10 regular season title.
UMass Lowell went on capture the NCAA East Region title with victories over Molloy (3-2) and host Southern New Hampshire (2-1) before suffering an overtime loss at Dowling in the NCAA Quarterfinal.
As a junior, Wangia compiled six goals and three assists (15 points) in helping guide UMass Lowell a 12-4-4 record and a 10-2-1 showing in the NE-10 (second). The River Hawks drew with Southern Connecticut, 1-1, thanks to a goal by Wangia, and advanced on penalty kicks before falling to NCAA Champion Franklin Pierce in the second round.
As a freshman, Wangia appeared in eight matches with three starts.
Wangia graduated in 2009 with a degree in business administration. He was among 25 NCAA Division I, II and III New England-based players to earn an invitation to a closed tryout with the New England Revolution.
Wangia is currently studying for his MBA at the University.
A native of Thika, Kenya, Wangia lives in Lowell, Mass.
