Kyle Mummau

Mummau enters his fourth season in 2022 as assistant coach and defensive coordinator of the River Hawks. Coach Stephenson announced his hire on September 6, 2019.

Mummau served as defensive coordinator for the Clarkson Golden Knights under head coach Bill Bergan for the last two seasons and helped the team secure a berth in the Liberty League Tournament in both years. While at Clarkson, he was charged with the oversight of the defensive side of the field, including midfielders, defensemen, and goalies. He oversaw player development, creation of game plans and scouting reports, as well as planning practice on a daily basis on the defensive end. Mummau was also heavily involved in recruiting, in addition to assisting Coach Bergan in the day-to-day operations of the Golden Knights program.

"Our defensive personnel will have the opportunity to learn from a really bright, competitive young coach," said Stephenson. "Kyle is one of the top young assistants in the game right now. He is a high character guy, and he shares our passion for developing the complete student-athlete".

"I have had the privilege of working with Kyle for two years," said Bergan. "He was one of the best defensive coordinators I have had in my 31 years at Clarkson. He is not only a great field coach but also a very good recruiter. He will do great things at UMass Lowell."

He was a four-year starter (2014-2017) on the Bryant University Lacrosse team under head coach Michael Pressler. Mummau was a three-time NEC All-Conference First-Team selection and was an NEC All-Rookie Team selection in 2014. In 2017, he captained the Bulldogs and earned USILA Scholar All-American honors.

"I could not be more excited to be here at UMass Lowell," said Mummau. "What Coach Stephenson has created in his time here is incredible and I am extremely blessed and humbled to be a part of the River Hawk community. I look forward to the opportunity presented to me and will do all that I can to help the lacrosse program continue to succeed."

"Kyle Mummau was arguably the best cover defenseman that I have had the privilege to coach in my 37 years at the college level," said Pressler. "He is so bright, so professional and his work ethic is second to none. He is going to be a star in the coaching profession. UMass Lowell hit a home run with this hire. Could not be more happy for Coach Stephenson and especially Coach Mummau."

He graduated from Bryant in 2017 with a degree in Biology and recently earned his master's degree from Clarkson in 2017 with a degree in Environmental Science and Engineering.
