Biography
NHL: Signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers on March 28, 2017. He played six games with the Bakerfield Condors (AHL) to finish the season.
2016-17 Season: Gambardella led the team in scoring with a career-high 52 points with a +21 rating, to go along with a career-high 18 goals and 34 assists, playing in all 41 games for the River Hawks. Named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team for his six-point (1g,5a) effort and +4 rating in five contests. Was the first UMass Lowell player ever to win the Walter Brown Award, given annually to the top American born player in New England and was also named to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team. He was named a Second-Team Hockey East All-Star and earned the Len Ceglarski Individual Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive season at the league’s annual awards banquet on March 16th. Ranked tied of ninth in the nation in points and his 34 assists were tied for seventh nationally. His seven game-winning goals was tied for second nationally among Div. I players. He was tied for fourth in the conference in scoring and his assist total was fourth best among HEA players. He recorded his 100th career point with an assist on Dec. 9th vs. Merrimack at the Tsongas Center. Had points in 30 games with 15 multi-point efforts. Registered a career-high five points (1g,4a) in the Ledyard Classic Championship Game on Dec. 31st at Dartmouth. Was named MVP of the Ledyard Classic with seven points (2g,5a) in two games. Was one of three current River Hawks selected to the UMass Lowell 2007-2017 All-Decade Team. The River Hawks owned a 24-4-2 record when Gambardella scored a point. Gambardella was named team MVP at the annual awards banquet in April. He also won the Gus Coutu Award, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the spirit of the River Hawk Hockey program, as well as the G. Harvey Chandler Award as the team's leading scorer.
2015-16 Season: Gambardella was one of five River Hawks to play in all 40 games in his junior season, recording a career-high 37 points (10g,27a), which ranked second on the River Hawks roster to go along with a +17 plus/minus rating. His 27 assists led the River Hawks’ roster and ranked tied for fourth among Hockey East players. Gambardella’s 15 assists in 22 leagues games was tied for ninth among Hockey East players. Gambardella was an NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team honoree, after his two-goal effort against Yale in the regional semifinal, which included the overtime game-winner on March 26th. Was named the recipient of the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award at the Hockey East Championship awards banquet. Gambardella was the recipient of the Gus Coutu Award at the annual team awards banquet, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the spirit of the UMass Lowell Hockey program. Posted seven points (4g,3a) in in six playoff games to go along with a +2 plus/minus rating. Had a seven-game point streak with eight points (1g,7a) from Nov. 13th to Dec. 5th. Gambardella has at least one point in 27 games this season, including nine multi-point efforts to his credit with a season-high three points (1g,2a) in the 6-3 victory at Minnesota-Duluth on October 31st. Notched a season-high six shots on goal against Colorado College on October 16th. UMass Lowell owns a 20-3-4 record when Gambardella scores a point. Gambardella had three game-winning goals this season and has four assists on game-winning goals to his credit.
2014-15 Season: Appeared in 38 games while adding 30 points (14g,16a). Added three points (1g,2a) in a 7-1 win over UMass on Feb. 14. Notched two points on four separate occasions. Held a seven-game point streak from Nov. 8 to Dec. 3. Ended the season with a five-game point streak in the Hockey East Playoffs. His three shorthanded goals ranked tied for first nationally among Div. I players.
2013-14 Season: Registered 10 points in 31 games (5g,5a). Added two assists in a 4-0 win over Penn State. Notched the game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory over Merrimack. Finished the year with a +8 rating.
Before UMass Lowell: Played two seasons with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League ... Totaled 45 points (19g, 26a) in 79 career games with the Buccaneers ...
