Biography

(1989) - The finest butterfly swimmer in the history of the University of Lowell[apos]s program, Joe Vicedomine was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He is the fifth member of the swimming program to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

A five-time All-American butterfly swimmer, Joe still holds five school records and is a member of two record relay teams. He is the record holder in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.45), 100-yard butterfly (50.86), 200-yard butterfly (1:53.58) and the 200 and 400-yard individual medleys (2:01.31 and 4:15.30, respectively). He is the former 200-yard backstroke record holder.

At the conclusion of the 1988-89 season, Joe ranked first in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles, first in the 100 and 200-yard butterflies, first in the 100 and 200-yard individual medleys, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard backstroke. He still owns top ten times in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly.

As a freshman, Joe finished sixth in the 100IM, fourth in the 200 fly, third in the 100 fly, and was part of eighth place 400 medley relay team at the N.E.I.S.A Championships. At the NCAA Division II Championships, he placed 10th in the 100 fly and 17th in the 200 fly.

At the N.E.I.S.A meet as a sophomore, he was fifth in the 400 IM, fourth in the 200 fly, fourth in the 100 fly, and was a member of the ninth place medley relay. Joe placed 11th at the NCAA[apos]s in the 100 fly.

During his junior year, Joe finished third in 400 IM, fourth in the 200 fly, first in the 1000 fly, and was part of the championship 400 medley relay team at the N.E.I.S.A meet. He placed sixth in the 200 fly and seventh in the 100 fly at the NCAA[apos]s and set five school records during the season. He was the team[apos]s high point scorer for the season.

Co-captain in his senior year, Joe was part of the Chiefs 10th place 800 freestyle relay, first in the 200 fly, and successfully defended his 100 fly title at the N.E.I.S.A Championships. Competing at the NCAA[apos]s in 100 and 200 fly, Joe finished 14th and 13th respectively. He was voted team[apos]s MVP was was the high point scorer for the second straight year.
