Costello Athletic Center is currently home to more than 400 student-athletes and contains academic support services, sports performance, athletic facilities, athletic healthcare, locker rooms and offices for coaches and administrators. The renovation of Costello is the next step to bring the 50 year old building up to Division I standards and make UMass Lowell competitive in America East by providing our students the tools they need to succeed and our coaches a powerful recruiting advantage.
In
Phase One of the renovation project, we will construct River Hawk Central - a dynamic multipurpose space to be used by teams. River Hawk Central will have casual seating for team meetings and group discussion along with a game day dining area and a refueling station to provide nutritious snacks and recovery for our student-athletes.
Adjacent to the multipurpose room will be conference rooms, a video review area and a prospective athlete recruiting lounge.
The video room will seat 50 and offer high definition review of game film and practice.
Donors' names will be permanently remembered on a donor wall. Names will be grouped by annual giving level starting at a one year commitment of $1000.
The Academic Center, constructed in 2015 is staffed by four academic support service staff. The space not only offers individual and group study space, tutoring and advising services, it also serves as team meeting and conference space for the department. Upon completion of River Hawk Central, all 1700 square feet of the Academic Center will be dedicated to study and tutoring.
Phase Two will relocate the current weight room and create a state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center.
