Mission:
To maximize the potential of our athletes: mentally, physically and athletically. This is done through a systematic approach using multiple methodologies which will keep our athletes progressing through their years in the program while reducing their injury potential.
Philosophy:
In the weight room and in our training sessions we will strive to excel in everything we do. We will use testing and metrics to track this growth. Growth within in these tests and measures will have a correlation with their growth on the court. The areas that we will improve on in the weight room that will have the most direct and immediate transfer to their on-court success is that of:
- Discipline
- Accountability
- Mental Toughness
- Physical Toughness
- Team Work
- Camaraderie
It is our duty as coaches to hold our athletes accountable and it is the athlete's responsibility to hold each other accountable. It is our duty to ensure at least one aspect of these areas is worked on in every training session. We will accomplish this with using different training means, having group and individual competitions and through work with partners as we are dependent on each other and NO ONE TRAINS ALONE.
Fundamental Principles
The Foundation: These are the building blocks of who we are and how we will become successful as a team and in the weight room.
Pride: It is a privilege to wear the River Hawk's uniform and to be part of the team. You must carry yourself as such and be proud (not boastful) of who you are and what you represent not just in the weight room, but on the court/field and in the public's eye.
Passion: Most athletes come in with a passion to play the game they love. It is our duty to educate them and guide them so they will not only have a passion to play the game, but to have a passion do what is needed to better themselves and the team even when games are many months away.
Excellence: Excellence is not perfection, but it is the pursuit of perfection each and every day. It is learning from our mistakes and growing as we strive for perfection.
The IntangiblesÂ
This is the glue that holds it all together. Sometimes it is not so easy to see, but it is necessary in order to have true success as a team and to reach your true potential.
Trust: Without trust one cannot accept criticism, they cannot risk failure, they will not be able to lean on a teammate or coach to guide them with instruction.
Respect: Respect goes hand and hand with pride. You must respect yourself, your teammates, your support staff, your school and facilities.
