LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance Lainie Williams has announced the promotion of Neil Ehlers to Senior Associate Athletic Trainer.
"Neil has been an integral part of the Athletic Healthcare staff and is well deserving of his promotion," said Williams. "His commitment, knowledge, and skills help our department continue to grow, and I'm excited to continue to watch him grow in his new position and the impact he will have on River Hawk Nation."
Ehlers, who has over a decade of experience in the field, joined the River Hawk athletic training staff in July of 2022. During his time at UMass Lowell, he has worked primarily with the men's basketball program, while also occasionally helping out with the cross country and track and field programs.
"I am honored to step into my new role as Senior Associate Athletic Trainer," said Ehlers. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Lynn Coutts, Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance Lainie Williams, and Men's Basketball Head Coach Pat Duquette for their continued support and trust in me. I am grateful to continue my career at a place that values the health and safety of its student-athletes and recognizes the important role athletic training plays in providing that care. Over the past four years at UMass Lowell, the athletic department and athletic healthcare staff have continued to grow and develop, and I am excited to build upon that progress. I love Lowell, and I look forward to continuing to raise the standard of care and contributing to the continued success of our student-athletes and the department."
Before UMass Lowell, Ehlers spent time as an athletic trainer at Harvard and an associate athletic trainer at Newberry College, working with a handful of different teams at each stop.
Ehlers earned his master's degree in athletic training from West Virginia University in 2017 and graduated from the University of Connecticut with his bachelor's degree in 2014.
