LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell men's soccer goalkeeper Alvaro Medrano (Guatemala City, Guatemala) has been selected to represent Guatemala at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship, which will be held from July 24 through August 9 in Mexico.

"We are incredibly proud of Alvaro and all the hard work he's put in to earn this opportunity," said Head Coach Kyle Zenoni. "It's an incredible honor to represent your country, and we know he'll make the most of it. Our entire UMass Lowell family will be cheering him on every step of the way."

The tournament will be played at Estadio Universitario BUAP and Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, as well as Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. Guatemala will compete in Group B alongside Antigua and Barbuda, Costa Rica and host Mexico, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stage.

Medrano appeared in eight matches and made seven starts in goal for the River Hawks during his freshman campaign in 2025. He posted a 4-2-2 record with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .787 save percentage while recording three shutouts.

Guatemala opens group play against Costa Rica on July 24 before taking on Antigua and Barbuda on July 27 and host Mexico on July 30.
