DEDHAM, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's track and field team traveled to the Jay Carisella/Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational on Saturday afternoon as a final meet before next weekend's America East Championships. They finished with a multitude of top finishes and impressive performances.

Freshman Chris Guerin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up a personal record in the 5,000m run, finishing fifth out of 13 runners with a 14:57.06 mark to lead the team. Graduate student Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) also raced and earned a personal-best time, claiming seventh place with a 15:04.21 mark, before junior Dean Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned 10th with a 15:28.81 mark.

Next was the 3,000m steeplechase, where junior Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished seventh out of 11 and earned a personal record of 9:40.79, before the 1,500m kicked off and sophomore Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk to finish in the top half of the 78 runner field, earning 28th place with a personal-best time of 3:54.61.

Moving onto sprints, the two River Hawks to compete in the 100m dash had solid placements, as sophomore Dmitrius Shearrion (Taunton, Mass.) finished tied for sixth out of 36 runners with a 10.89 mark, before senior Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) claimed 14th with a time of 11.27. In the 400m, two River Hawks finished in the top half, with senior Basit Iddriss (Milford, Mass.) leading the way in 10th out of 27 with a time of 49.66, before sophomore Cyprian Ojatabu (Ojoto, Nigeria) finished 13th with a 50.74 mark.

Sophomore Sean Kerin (Walpole, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk to earn a top half finish in the 800m, claiming 23rd place out of 53 with a 1:55.18 mark for an outdoor personal best. Next was the 200m dash, where Earle competed again and finished 16th out of 32 with a 22.52 mark.

In the field events, freshman John Kivlan kicked it off with a second-place performance in the high jump, clearing 1.90m. Sophomore Jack Shepherd and graduate student Luke Stelmach (Sterling, Mass.)  tied for fifth place, earning 1.85m marks. The long jump was next, and Kivlan performed well again, earning a personal-best mark of 6.64m for sixth place, just ahead of junior Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) in seventh with a jump of 6.59m. The shot put concluded the day and senior Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the way in 12th place out of 20 with a 13.76m mark.

"The weather and outside circumstances were difficult for the team today," said Associate Head Coach Ally Waruch. "It was cold and windy then warm and sunny from attempt to attempt and race to race. It was just difficult to get into a rhythm today, but it is good that the whole team got to push through a little discomfort outside because it helps you learn and prepare in other ways for your event. We are excited to head into conference championships next weekend at home."

The River Hawks will now look forward to the 2026 America East Outdoor Championships at home next weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10.
