LOWELL, Mass. – Playing at home for one final time during the 2026 season, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (2-8, 0-4 AE) welcomes the Vermont Catamounts (4-6, 2-2 AE) to Cushing Field on Saturday, April 18, with opening faceoff scheduled for 6 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will host its Senior Day celebration, honoring the three senior members of the team.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied a team-high four points, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team nearly pulled off the second-half comeback, but fell to the NJIT Highlanders, 10-8, on Saturday night. Burke, who finished with two goals and two assists, was one of seven River Hawks to record a point in the contest. Freshman Ryan Proctor (Uxbridge, Ontario) finished with three goals, his first career hat trick, while juniors Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) and Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Redshirt sophomore James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) rounded out the goal scorers with a goal, while junior Maverick Chedel (Groveland, Mass.) and sophomore Brady Brennan (Newington, Ct.) each added an assist. In net, junior Scott Kosakowski (Westport, Ct.) made a career-high 17 saves in his second start of the season.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through nine games, Burke paces the squad with 26 points, while sophomore Alex Lafreniere (Chelmsford, Mass.) sits second with 21 points and tied for the team-high with 16 goals. Donnelly, meanwhile, who has the second most assists with seven, adds nine goals to sit third on the team with 16 points. Behind them, Proctor, Soi, Frigon, and sophomore Griffin Sumwalt (Aquebogue, N.Y.) all add double-digit points. At the X, junior Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.) ranks second in the America East and seventh in the nation with a .637 (135-212) win percentage while collecting a conference-leading 85 ground balls. Defensively, junior Jackson Schlicker (Portland, Ore.) adds nine caused turnovers and nine ground balls. In net, junior Carter O'Brien (Concord, Mass.), junior Scott Kosakowski (Westport, Ct.), and sophomore AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) have all split time, with True leading the way with six starts and 58 saves.

RECORDING RECORDS
In the team's second game of the year against Mercyhurst, Donnelly put on a show, totaling five goals and three assists, both career-highs, to set a new DI single-game program record with eight points. He also made sure to come up clutch for the River Hawks, scoring twice in the final four minutes, including once with six seconds remaining, to send the game to overtime, setting up the thrilling, 14-13 double overtime finish.

OVERTIME MADNESS
The River Hawks put their resilience to the test early in the season, rallying from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter against Mercyhurst to send the battle to overtime. The defense stood strong in extra time, allowing no shots, pushing the game to a second extra period, where Frigon went on to score the game-winner for UMass Lowell with 1:35 remaining. The win marked the first overtime victory for the River Hawks since taking down conference foe UMBC, 13-12, in overtime during the 2019 season.

SCOUTING VERMONT
Entering Saturday's contest with a 4-6 record, the Catamounts have dropped their last two contests, including a 12-9 loss last weekend at UAlbany. Leading the way on the offense is Zack Toll, who leads the team with 27 points and 19 assists. Sitting second on the squad, Max Frattaroli totals 21 goals to pace his team, while three other Catamounts total double-digit goals. At the X, Walter Zhao sits first in the nation with a .700 (133-190) win percentage, while sitting second in the conference with 83 ground balls, only behind Alexander.
