River Hawks Host Dartmouth, Visit New Hampshire

LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off a thrilling overtime victory, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (5-8, 1-3 AE) hosts a midweek nonconference contest against the Dartmouth Big Green (6-6) on Tuesday, April 14, before heading north to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats (4-9, 0-4 AE) on Saturday, April 18.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) totaled a game-high five points, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team earned a thrilling, 11-10 overtime victory over the UMBC Retrievers on Saturday afternoon. Lydon, who finished with three goals and two assists, was one of seven River Hawks to record at least a point in the contest. Senior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) added three goals, junior Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) tallied two goals and an assist, while freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) chipped in a goal and an assist. Redshirt freshman Chiara Pompei (Catonsville, Md.) scored the game-winner in overtime, senior Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) added a goal, and sophomore Georgia Ruscitti (Toronto, Ontario) rounded things out with an assist. In net, freshman Lauren Lorentzen (Carlsbad, Calif.) made 11 saves in 64 minutes of action.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through 13 games, Shultz paces the squad with 35 points and 16 assists, while Hilbert sits right behind her with 33 points off 20 goals and 13 assists. Ranking third on the team, Lydon totals 31 points, while junior Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) sits fourth with a team-leading 25 goals for 26 points.  Leading the squad on the draw, senior Rachel Stax (Milton, Ga.) totals 36 draw controls, while sophomore Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) leads the defense with 15 caused turnovers. In net, Lorentzen has started seven of 13 contests, making 30 saves for a 3-3 record.

100 POINT CLUB
After recording a hat trick in the team's conference opener at UAlbany, Lydon reached the 100-point milestone for her career, becoming only the eighth River Hawk to ever reach the mark, joining current teammates senior Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) and Bowers. Only three weeks later, Shultz reached the milestone as well with her first goal of the day in the 11-10 overtime victory over UMBC.

OVERTIME THRILLER
Looking for their first conference victory of the season, the River Hawks faced a 7-3 deficit against UMBC midway through the third quarter. Refusing to back down, the team used a 7-2 scoring run to take their first lead of the day, 10-9, with just over a minute to play. Although the Retrievers responded seconds later to send the game to overtime, UMass Lowell stayed resilient, as Lorentzen made a huge save to gain possession for her team before Pompei eventually recorded the game winner. Not only did the win mark the first of conference play for the squad, but it was also the program's first overtime victory since 2017 when they took down Bryant, 10-9.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
In the first-ever match against Furman, the River Hawks' offense reached a new level, scoring 20 goals and a program-record 15 assists, surpassing the previous record of 12 set back in the 2017 season. Individually, Bowers finished with seven goals, the second-most goals and points in a game in program history, while Shultz added seven points as well with six assists, tying the single-game program record set by now assistant coach Megan Brockbank when she also finished with six assists and a goal against New Hampshire during the 2021 campaign.

WEEKLY WINNERS
After a pair of excellent performances in week one, Kuhn was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week while freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week. Against the Jaspers, Kuhn started her season strong in net, allowing only six goals while making 11 saves on 28 shots faced, good for a .647 save percentage and her 17th career double-digit save performance. Meanwhile, Brezynskie left her mark in her first collegiate game, posting a hat trick, including the game-winner. Not only impressing on the offensive end, but she also filled up the box score all over the field, tallying two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
Although the Big Green enters Tuesday's game with a 6-6 record, they have lost the last three games. Leading the team offensively is Madeline Egan, who paces her squad with 28 goals and 52 points, while Charlotte Myers tallies a team-best 27 assists to rank second with 47 points. On the draw, Maya Kendall ranks among the best in the country, posting 145 draw controls and ranking third in draw controls per game (12.08). In net, Ruby Lucken has made nine starts with 12 appearances, totaling 67 saves with 95 goals allowed, good for a .414 save percentage and a 4-6 record.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire enters the week having lost the last four games and will visit UConn on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's contest. Offensively, Rose Pavuk ranks as one of the top goal scorers in the conference, sitting fifth with 2.46 goals per game and 32 total. Meanwhile, three other Wildcats total at least 20 points, with Libby Boland sitting second with 29 points off 23 goals and six assists. All over the stat sheet, Julia Gronda totals 16 ground balls, a team-leading 12 caused turnovers, and 22 draw controls. In net, Emma Crater has earned the majority of starts, making 81 saves with a .440 save percentage in eight starts.

MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Big Green have faced off five times, with Dartmouth earning the win in each contest. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell has taken on New Hampshire ten times, and owns a 3-7 record in the all-time series, including winning the last two games.
