BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's and women's indoor track and field team closed out the indoor season with day two of the NEICAAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The men's shot put kicked off the field events, and freshman Kenneth Kalvinek (Sutton, Mass.) finished fourth with a 16.34m mark. Not far behind him were freshmen
Kevin Vigneault (Jamesville, N.Y.) and
Reznor Rokicki (Loveland, Ohio), finishing in sixth and seventh place, respectively, with 15.56m and 15.35m marks.
Next was the men's high jump, where freshman
Rere Edokpolo (Manchester, N.H.) claimed 11
th place, reaching 1.85m.
In the women's triple jump, junior
Nethica Auguste (Bridgewater, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk, finishing 18th with an 10.71m mark.
In the running events, junior
Nidlaire Olivier (Lowell, Mass.) finished seventh in the men's 60m hurdles prelim, qualifying himself for finals with an 8.52 mark as the lone UMass Lowell competitor. He then finished third in the finals with a time of 8.41.
Two River Hawks ran in the men's 60m dash prelim, with sophomore
Iyanuoluwapo Omisore (Lagos, Nigeria) leading the way with a 10
th-place performance and 7.00 mark. Sophomore
Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana) followed him in 18
th place with a time of 7.14.
In the men's 500m final, freshman
Raymond Dafe (Lowell, Mass.) represented UMass Lowell and took home sixth place honors with a time of 1:06.99. Next was the men's 200m final, where Gyimah competed and finished in sixth place with a 22.36 mark.
Seniors Kyie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) and
Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) of the women's squad competed in the 3,000m run, as Marion claimed 12
th place with a time of 10:14.73, before Jones crossed the finish line in 20
th place with a 10:42.37 mark.
Senior
Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the day, competing in two of the final three events of the men's heptathlon on day two, finishing 10
th in the 60m hurdles with a 9.24 mark and third in the pole vault, clearing 4.30m.
"It was a nice way to finish off the indoor season," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "It was great to see Mike make the finals and score well in the 200m and the throwers continue to develop and are so fun to watch."
